Create Visual
Records
- Take a series of photographs of your treasures. Try to get the
clearest and most detailed photo. Include close-ups. Digital photos
are the best but if you do not have a digital camera, the one-time use
cameras are just as good. Have those photos developed on a CD. You
can adjust the quality of these photos on your computer. You will
need the photos when researching your treasure or describing your
treasure to an expert. This includes books. Photos will help you
for insurance purposes as well.
Place the item
on a flat surface. If the item is light in color, try to have
the item placed on a dark surface. The background should be a
contrasting color as well.
Don't forget
to put the title of the item under the photo. If using digital
photos, save the photo with the title of the item for each photo and
put a number next to the title and save the photos as a ".jpg" or
".gif" image. For Example: tangvase1.jpg (or .gif),
tangvase2.jpg (or .gif). This will make it easier for you to
search for the image in your computer files. When you create your lists, or data base, you
will insert these photos in the proper section. In this example,
you would place the photo in the "Vase Section," then "Tang Vase"
as an entry within that section. For more
