Some Links are Active - More Coming very soon...!

In order for you to know, and understand, what you have, you need to research your treasures.  Aside from the Special Links Section, we will provide you with some guidance and resources.

Here is where any background information you have on the object becomes a help to your research.  If you know when it was given to you and by whom, and how long they had the object, you have some idea how old it is.  The age of the treasure is an important fact in the research along with what it is and any identifying manufacturers mark or signature on the object.

If you are having difficulty finding information or need more data or assistance, contact:  info@aliceintheattic-ps.com.

To return to the site after clicking on the links, just use your back button/arrow.

Searching the Internet - Search for information on your treasure by using search engines such as Yahoo!, Google, AOL to name a few of the top search engines.

There are several ways to search for information.  Your results though, will probably turn up thousands, or at at least hundreds of choices.  To narrow your search, be specific  and surround your statement with quotes such as "coins issued in the 1940's."  If you want to see photographs, add that to your search.

You can search by date, era, style, subject, manufacturer, designer, and object.

Decide you what information you want to keep and save the website or at  least the web address and information you need.

Use the photographs you have taken of your treasure to compare to the images you find.

If you come across the monetary value of a similar object, understand that yours may or may not be worth the same.  Remember:  the condition of  your treasure  is of great importance in determining the value. Sometimes if the object is truly rare, then the quality, though very important can be secondary.  More about this later..

Libraries  - Books and DVD's hold a wealth of information.  Your local or main  Library can be an excellent source of information.  The search will be similar to searching the internet.  You may also be able to find excellent photographs of the objects your are searching.  Don't forget to check auction house catalogs.

Many Libraries are now on line and you can search for the books/DVD you need and then locate them at your local library.  If you local library does not have a copy of the book or DVD you need, ask the Librarian to get you a copy.  This is a common feature in most libraries.

Booksellers - I differentiate between a book store and bookseller.  What I refer to as a "Bookseller" is  someone who specializes in  knowing about the books they sell, pricing, and quality. There are several online booksellers that are especially worth looking at:  BookFinder.com, Abebooks.com, and Amazon.com(this link connects you with our  Amazon.com "Collectors Connection" selections which is then directed to amazon.com web site).  BookFinder and Abe Books is a good source of pricing and will also provide you with pointers on what to look for in old/rare books and how to understand how to know and describe the condition of the book.  Amazon.com also provides an excellent description of how to determine the condition of a book.  For price comparisons, BookFinders and Abe Books are better sources.  Here are a few other good sources but more specialized.

  Alibris-Used/Rare/Out of Print/Textbooks
  American Booksellers Association
  Asian Rare Books
  Antiquarian Booksellers Association
Bauman Rare Books-  - Rare/First Editions/Hard to Find Books
  Bibliofind
International League of Antiquarian Booksellers - See the Collectors Corner for an excellent source of information.
  Maggs Rare Books

Booksellers are a wonderful source when researching possible rare or special old books.

Books Stores - An excellent source whether on line or a regular brick and mortar store.  One of the best place to shop online is at Amazon.com with selections of new and used books and more.  This link connects you to a selection of helpful books and a direct connection to Amazon.com (any books purchased from this section is purchased directly from Amazon.com). Rummaging through books and magazine in stores selling used books are fun to shop in with prices fitting most everyone's budget .
